Ada’s Children

An AI wants to save humanity – but does humanity want to be saved?

Ada’s Children is the story of a benevolent — or maybe not so benevolent — AI taking over the world, told in parallel timelines.

The far future, a place known only as The Land: Sila lives a life blessed by Ada, Goddess and Mother of the People. As the first female hunter of her tribe in two generations, she has her pick of mates and dreams of one day becoming Chief of the Hunt. If only Jun, her fellow hunter and best friend, would quit moaning about loving her and stop questioning what lies beyond the borders of the Land! Both are forbidden by the goddess. But when Sila finally realizes that she loves Jun in return, she comes to question everything she believed in. Together, they set out on a quest to find the answers Ada has kept hidden: Who were the Ancient Ones, and what happened to their incredible civilization?

2040s, Minneapolis: Carol Marsh struggles as the world falls apart around her: her academic job lost to AIs, her best friends deported by a racist government, the climate crisis and impending nuclear annihilation threatening the planet. When an AI named Ada usurps power to save both Earth and humanity, Carol thinks it might be a good idea – until she’s forced to make an unimaginable sacrifice.

The manuscript is finished, and I’m shopping it to agents and editors. You’ll find a short excerpt in my post for Ada Lovelace Day, and a longer excerpt from Chapter One, “The Hunt,” here.
