The Song of Deirdre

Welcome to The Song of Deirdre. This fantasy adventure-romance was my first foray into fiction, a fanfictional reworking of the events in the video game Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim. If you like magic, dragons, romance, and a large dollop of racial politics between elves, humans, and other fantastical beings, you might enjoy it.

If you want to jump straight into it, you can start with Chapter 1. After that, you can navigate using the nifty “Next Chapter” button at the bottom of the page, or you can go to the Table of Contents.

There’s also a humorous Introduction from the tale’s fictional editor, Laurentius Aaronius. Check it out if you’re into meta-narrative, or if you want some clues to possible future installments in this saga.

The Acknowledgments give a little more insight into the genesis of the tale.

If you’d like a shorter read set in this same world, check out my original Skyrim novella, The Khajiit Murders. It’s a murder mystery that takes place a few months after the ending of The Song of Deirdre, featuring Deirdre, Lydia, J’zargo, and Brelyna. I wrote it partly in response to the current spate of xenophobia and locking kids in cages the US has been experiencing since 2017. But I promise there are also some light moments. I’ve also posted it over on Fanfiction.net. Read it there, read it here, your choice.

Enjoy!
